The Cave Research Foundation Klamath Mountains Project has been active in northern California for ten years surveying, exploring and documenting the many great caves of the region. Projects in that two years include Scorpion Cave on the Oregon border where a new 6th level was discovered and two other nearby caves might be connected to make a system over a mile long (we hope). Del Loma, a historic cave, has been completely mapped for the first time and extended through a series of tight squeezes. Well decorated Ringtail Cave was found 40 years ago, but never mapped. It is now being surveyed, and we are creating photo and biological inventories of this scenic cave with a pit over 200 feet deep. The Triassic Hosselkaus Limestone in Shasta County has been the sight of several trips, particularly following a recent forest fire. Numerous caves and pits have been found by multiple groups of cavers. We have supported and assisted with multiple projects and trips into the caves in the Marble Mountains with the NSS Klamath Mountains Conservation Task Force, and on clean-ups in Samwel and Ancient Palace Cave with the Shascade Caving Society. Butter Creek and the Tombstone Mountain area have also seen recent trips. Steady progress is also being made on several cave maps and reports.
