NSS Convention 2026

Binkley Cave is by far the longest surveyed cave in Indiana, twice as long in fact and one of the longest Caves in the United States at over 46 miles in length. In 1967 the Indiana Speleological Survey (ISS) began exploring and surveying Binkley Cave and other related caves in the sinkhole plain south of Corydon, Indiana and continues to nearly 60yrs later. This sprawling cave system is known for its grueling environment with flash flooding, deep mud, long crawls and miles of borehole, Binkey caving is not for the faint of heart. While the caving can be arduous and the tolls on the body taxing, the rewards are immeasurable to those who choose to cave in Binkleys. This presentation will give a brief overview of Binkleys Cave exploration throughout the decades and the ISS's current exploration efforts and new mapping and survey projects.
