CaveSim was invented in 2008 to address the problem of caves getting damaged during mock rescue scenarios. First used during Search and Rescue trainings in Colorado, CaveSim rapidly evolved into a tool for teaching conservation with minimum-impact physical movement through the cave. The CaveSim organization is building several additional mobile caves that include new STEM learning features. The new caves are bigger, more realistic, and robustly designed to handle increasing visitation. By taking our CaveSim design to the next level, we are making it possible for educators from other organizations to use CaveSim as a STEM education tool, potentially increasing the number of students who can explore and learn via the CaveSim system. The staff at Great Basin National Park use their CaveSim for public outreach, proving that CaveSim systems in the hands of other organizations makes adventures in learning through cave and karst conservation accessible to families around the country.
