DESCRIPTION:Lineament analyses provide a valuable framework for understandi
 ng the structural controls on karst development\, groundwater flow\, and s
 urface–subsurface interactions in karst terrains. In the Mammoth Cave re
 gion of south-central Kentucky\, the intersection of mapped faults\, joint
 s\, and fracture zones with topographic lineaments strongly influences the
  orientation of cave passages\, sinkhole alignments\, and conduit-dominate
 d aquifers.\n\nBy integrating remote sensing of 10-inch resolution Digital
  Elevation Models (DEM)\, ArcGIS-based lineament mapping\, and ongoing fie
 ld verification\, this study highlights the role of regional structural tr
 ends in the Mammoth Cave Plateau in guiding speleogenesis and level develo
 pment within the Mammoth Cave Plateau. It can be utilized to identify zone
 s of preferential flow pathways and can therefore improve vulnerability ma
 pping\, help predict contaminant transport\, and influence land-use decisi
 ons within sensitive recharge areas.\n\nThe results indicate that lineamen
 ts of NE–SW and NW–SE trending orientation exert some directional infl
 uence on conduit orientation\, thereby influencing both the hydrologic reg
 ime and the geomorphic expression of the Mammoth Cave Plateau. These findi
 ngs show the importance of structural mapping in karst terrains\, providin
 g an interpretive framework for predicting anisotropic groundwater flow\, 
 delineating zones of enhanced vulnerability\, and refining conceptual mode
 ls of karst aquifer dynamics.\n\nIn addition\, this research demonstrates 
 that lineament analyses offer an essential tool for advancing both theoret
 ical understanding of karst evolution and applied strategies for the conse
 rvation and management of large cave systems.
