NSS Convention 2026

Progress in Fort Stanton Cave
, Auditorium

In 2024 approximately 7 miles of new survey in 6 expeditions led to breakouts in three new directions plus the continuing Snowy River trend in the south. In 2025 five "strong and light" teams pushed several of these leads plus continued mop-up of areas not visited in eleven years. Snowy River remained dry except in the far South allowing these expeditions from May until September where they yielded another 4.7 miles of new discovery. Each expedition was 3 or 4 days long, and most were based out of Midnight Junction camp in the south, 10 miles from the entrance. One team was so far from MJ that they used a lightweight bivy technique to avoid traveling hours back to camp. Areas of work included discoveries in the new Northwest passage, and off Borderlands, Red Velvet, and MK Ultra. No teams made it to Noire or to the going SRS survey at Babylon and Hanging Gardens, which is far upstream Snowy River. If October hadn't been a bust with a government shutdown, 2 expeditions to these areas may have added several miles. The cave is presently mapped at 56.24 miles long, pushing it up to 7th on the US long caves list. 2026 seems promising for plenty of new discoveries in numerous leads.
